Why You Should Never Share Photos of Your Boarding Pass on Social Media
In a recent feature on Travel + Leisure, cybersecurity expert Amir Sachs, founder of Blue Light IT, underscores the perils of sharing boarding pass photos on social media. Boarding passes are packed with sensitive information, including your full name, ticket number, and passenger name record (PNR), all of which can be exploited by hackers. With just your PNR and last name, cybercriminals can access your booking details, contact information, and even frequent flier numbers, posing serious risks to your personal and financial security.
Sachs emphasizes that this data can be used for identity theft and fraudulent activities, such as opening credit card accounts or making unauthorized purchases. To mitigate these risks, he advises against printing boarding passes and recommends using mobile boarding passes instead. Even then, it’s crucial to avoid sharing these online. “Keep your info safe and save the travel bragging for when you’re safely back home!” advises Sachs, highlighting the importance of protecting your personal information both digitally and physically.
